Order to stop clearance of checks issued by 9 banks.

To prevent anonymous loans and money laundering, the central bank has ordered to stop the clearance or encashment of checks of one crore Taka or more issued by 9 banks from their respective banks or through any other bank.

9 banks are – Islami Bank Bangladesh, First Security Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, Global Islami Bank, Union Bank, National Bank, Bangladesh Commerce Bank, Padma Bank and ICB Bank.

The concerned officials said that until now any amount of money could be withdrawn by depositing the checks of these banks to other banks. As a result of this facility, thousands of crores of Taka have been withdrawn from banks through various paper institutions. Special instructions are given in the ongoing changing situation. As a result, you will not be able to encase more than 1 crore checks from now on. The regulatory body has given such instructions to the banks. The MD of some banks confirmed this information.

Officials of the central bank said that some banks have been in current account deficit for a long time. These banks are in such a crisis with anonymous loans. Yet former governor Abdur Rauf Talukder who resigned has unethically provided regular money from the vaults of the central bank to these banks through special facilities. On June 30, with the approval of the Governor, Bangladesh Bank provided liquidity assistance of Tk 35 thousand crores to Islamic banks in one day.

According to the latest calculations, banks have a deficit of Tk 29 thousand 597 crore as of May 16, including CRR. Apart from this, the same instructions have been given in the case of troubled Padma Bank and ICB Islami Bank. However, there is no deficit in the current account of the two banks. But banks cannot store both CRR and SLR.
