B Mirror Report: The government has set new prices for raw hides of sacrificial animals ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, Commerce Minister Khandker Abdul Muktadir said on Wednesday.
The announcement was made at a briefing following a meeting on ensuring proper management of Qurbani at the Secretariat.
According to the minister, the price of raw cattle hides in Dhaka has been fixed at Tk 62 to Tk 67 per square foot. Outside Dhaka, the price has been set at Tk 57 to Tk 62 per square foot.
He also said the price of goat hides has been set at Tk 25 to Tk 30 per square foot nationwide, while the price of kid (bakeri) hides has been fixed at Tk 22 to Tk 25 per square foot.
The minister added that the government will again distribute salt free of cost across the country to help preserve hides and prevent waste during the Eid season. A total of Tk 17.6 crore worth of salt has already been purchased for this purpose.
The salt will be distributed at district and upazila levels through the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC).
