Savar Correspondent: The Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) held a mid-term evaluation of its ongoing research projects for the 2025-26 fiscal year on May 13 at its headquarters in Savar, Dhaka. A total of 65 research projects under revenue and development budgets across five major research fields were reviewed during the evaluation process.
The meeting was chaired by BLRI Director General Dr Shakila Faruk and attended by expert committee members, department heads, and project directors. BLRI Director (Research) Dr Md Zillur Rahman delivered the welcome speech and presented an overview of the ongoing projects. During the discussions, experts emphasized conducting quality research with a focus on output, outcome, and impact rather than increasing the number of projects.
They also stressed the importance of developing profitable technologies for farmers and prioritizing research on livestock products and vaccine development. The experts expressed optimism that Bangladesh could significantly enhance livestock production by following successful regional examples.
In her remarks, Director General Dr Shakila Faruk thanked the experts for their participation and requested them to ensure quality-based evaluations. She also assured that BLRI would address the research limitations identified during the discussions.
The projects evaluated included 18 under Animal and Poultry Breeding and Genetics, 14 under Animal and Poultry Nutrition, Feeds and Fodder, 13 under Animal and Poultry Disease and Health, 15 related to Biotechnology, Climate Resilience, Waste Management and Dairy Research, and five under Socioeconomics and Farming System Research.
