Govt seeks Chinese support to revive closed factories

B Mirror Report: Commerce Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir on Thursday urged China to increase investment in Bangladesh and help revive the country’s closed factories through financial and technological support.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo at the ICCB in Dhaka, the adviser said the government is keen to expand industrial and investment cooperation with China. He also sought Chinese technological assistance for Bangladesh’s jute industry.

Muqtadir said Chinese investment and expertise could play a vital role in reopening shuttered industrial units and strengthening the country’s manufacturing sector.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said China is working to expand bilateral trade relations with Bangladesh under the new government and pledged full cooperation in the green textile sector, particularly in technology transfer.

The three-day Bangladesh-China Green Textile Expo features leading textile and garment companies, investors, technologists and business representatives from both countries. The exhibition showcases eco-friendly and recyclable textile technologies and includes seminars and panel discussions involving top entrepreneurs from Bangladesh and China.

The expo will remain open to visitors daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm and will conclude on May 16.
