DSE Trading Slumps as Index Fall

The country’s main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed lower on Monday, the second trading day of the week, as key index and turnover declined amid widespread price falls across most listed companies and funds.

According to DSE data, the benchmark index DSEX dropped by 54.87 points, settling at 5,061 points. The DSES (Shariah) index lost 12.36 points to close at 1,066, while the DS30 (blue-chip) index fell by 21.94 points to 1,960 points.

Turnover also decreased, with a total transaction value of Tk 518.62 crore, compared to Tk 544.76 crore in the previous session.

During the day’s trading, shares and units of 398 companies and mutual funds changed hands. Of these, 45 advanced, 300 declined, and 53 remained unchanged.

Market analysts attributed the fall to ongoing investor cautiousness and a lack of strong buying pressure, which continued to weigh on overall market sentiment.
