On Sunday, a Dhaka court ordered the freezing of 42 BO (beneficiary owner) accounts belonging to the late Zainul Haque Sikder, the founder of the Sikder Group and the former chairman of National Bank, as well as his family members.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) petition was granted by Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan.
ACC deputy director (public relations) Aktarul Islam confirmed the situation to BSS, stating that a four-member committee has already been established by the commission to look into claims of money laundering, loan scams, and client embezzlement.
The list of shares held by National Bank Limited and NBL Securities Limited was released by the probe committee after the bank’s 506th meeting. The accused are attempting to sell or transfer the shares, the committee was informed. In order to discourage them from turning over the shares, the ACC plea stated that the BO accounts ought to be frozen.
