Stakeholder solidarity in BSEC’s probe against irregularities

Stakeholders have expressed solidarity with the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC)’s investigation against irregularities. Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Chairman Mominul Islam said this information.

He informed reporters after a meeting with the BSEC chairman and commissioners on Sunday (March 9). At the time, BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood said, “We have asked everyone to join the work. We will work together with everyone.”

At a press conference after the meeting, DSE Chairman Mominul Islam said, “We are expressing complete solidarity with the investigation against irregularities by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission.”

He said, “We discussed how to maintain confidence in the market in a critical situation and overcome the crisis very quickly.” The way some officials and employees tried to collect their demands through chaos is not desirable in any way. We condemn it.

Mominul Islam also said that it is very important to thoroughly investigate the irregularities and corruption that have occurred in the past years and bring the concerned persons to justice to restore the confidence of investors. We express solidarity with the ongoing judicial process.

He said, we think that there are many in BSEC who are working with honesty and integrity. We have requested the BSEC Chairman and Commissioners to take steps so that these honest and loyal officials do not panic at this time, so that they can do their daily work properly. They have assured that this work has already started.

The DSE Chairman said, we have told them to take firm action. The investigation process cannot be stopped by intimidation like this. We will all deal with it together.

At the press conference, DSE Director Minhaj Mannan Emon said, “We are with the market (stock market), we were and we will be. This market is ours. The crisis that has arisen in the market is very undesirable. We were not prepared for such a situation.”

He said, “The case against the officials is a judicial matter, the law will run at its own pace. However, we have requested that no injustice be done to anyone. We have demanded that no innocent person be punished. At the same time, we thank the officials and employees for joining the work. We have requested them to continue the work and that the commission gradually overcome all fears and all the officials and employees work together.”

Representatives of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA), Bangladesh Merchant Bankers Association (BMBA), top brokerage houses, Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) and Central Counterparty Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) were present in the meeting.

BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood said, important stakeholders came here today. They expressed their sympathy and empathy to us. They also assured us that they will provide all kinds of support. We can see that our officers and employees have returned to work. We have told everyone to join work. We will work together with everyone. If everyone joins work, work will continue as normal.

Responding to a question whether he has spoken to the officers or not, the BSEC Chairman said, that time has not come yet. More details will be shared after discussion later.
At that time, BSEC Commissioner M. Mohsin Chowdhury, Md. Ali Akbar and Farzana Lalarukh were present.
