Khokan Bikash Tripura Jack, Khagrachhari Correspondent: With the theme “Tourism and Green Transformation,” the World Tourism Day was celebrated in Khagrachhari, organized by Jabarang Welfare Association. On Tuesday (October 14), a discussion meeting was held at Hotel Gairing Hall Room in Khagrachhari Sadar. The event was presided over by Mathura Bikash Tripura, Executive Director of Jabarang Welfare Association, while Prashanta Kumar Tripura, Member of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council, attended as the chief guest.
Speakers at the discussion emphasized the importance of promoting green technology in tourism, proper waste management, and the active involvement of local communities and businesses. They noted that ensuring sustainable development requires not only the use of eco-friendly technologies in tourism but also meaningful participation from local people.
They further stated that Khagrachhari is a promising destination for tourism, enriched with natural beauty, hill culture, and indigenous traditions that attract visitors from across the country and abroad. Therefore, coordinated efforts between government and private sectors, strategic planning, and the inclusion of local entrepreneurs are crucial for the sustainable development of the tourism sector.
The event was organized with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Government of Bangladesh, and Canada. It was attended by government officials, local representatives, women entrepreneurs, businesspersons, and development workers.
Among others present were Uttam Kumar Majumder, Manager of Khagrachhari Tourism Motel, and Nishat Roy, Sub-Inspector of Tourist Police, along with other tourism stakeholders and entrepreneurs.
