In the field of international bandwidth transport, Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPLC) has achieved a major milestone: on August 1, the company successfully provided a bandwidth capacity of four terabytes per second, setting a new record.
Faiz Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Posts and Telecommunications, posted this update on Facebook on Saturday, stating that on April 28, BSCPLC had reached a bandwidth supply level of three terabytes, and that the company had added an additional terabyte of supply capacity in just three months, increasing the bandwidth supply by 1.10 terabytes over the preceding eight months.
In July, the country saw the introduction of 200 Gbps bandwidth for the first time with the launch of the Starlink internet service, which is based on artificial satellite technology. This achievement by BSCPLC followed closely in August.
Faiz Ahmed stated, “During the previous term of the Awami League government, over 65 percent of BSCPLC’s bandwidth capacity remained unused. Under the current government, the supply has risen by more than 2.2 terabytes, reflecting a growth of over 120 percent in the past year.”
He also highlighted that the success can be attributed to the policy support from the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, the proactive involvement of the company’s management, and two rounds of price reductions.
BSCPLC’s share of the bandwidth currently utilized in the country is steadily increasing, leading to a notable rise in the company’s revenue.
