Stocks extended their gains on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Monday, with all major indices closing higher amid price increases in most listed securities, although market turnover declined from the previous session.
Market data showed that 394 issues were traded on the DSE, of which 181 advanced, 165 declined and 48 remained unchanged.
The benchmark DSEX index rose 17 points to close at 5,867, its highest level in nearly two years. The Shariah-based DSES index gained 4 points to 1,197, while the blue-chip DS30 index added 2 points to end at 2,203.
Despite the positive market performance, turnover on the premier bourse fell to Tk 1,419.15 crore from Tk 1,669.63 crore in the previous trading session, a decline of about Tk 250.48 crore.
Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher, with gains in the majority of listed issues and increased trading activity.
Of the 244 securities traded on the CSE, 122 advanced, 91 declined and 31 remained unchanged.
The CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) climbed 118 points to 15,711.
Turnover on the CSE increased sharply to Tk 30.10 crore from Tk 10.11 crore in the previous session.
