Because of its steady growth, the primary stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), returned more than Tk 9,105 crore in capital during the last week (February 2–6).
About Tk 4.15 billion was returned by the capital during the previous week (January 26–30). This indicates that during the past two weeks, the market capital has grown by Tk 13,000 crore.
In the outgoing week, along with all the indices of DSE, transactions in terms of Tk also increased. However, in the outgoing week of the other stock market Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), although all the indices increased, transactions in terms of Tk decreased.
In the weekly market review, it is seen that the main index of DSE, DSEX, has increased by 66.28 points or 1.30 percent to 5,179.18 points in the period of the week.
Among other indices, the DSE-30 index rose 9.05 points or 0.48 percent to 1,912.90 points and the DSE Shariah index DSES rose 13.82 points or 1.22 percent to 1,147.80 points.
A total of 395 companies participated in trading on the DSE in the past week. Of these, 265 increased their prices, 103 decreased and 27 remained unchanged.
712.37 million shares were traded on the DSE in the past week. The market value of which in taka stood at 2,132.97 million taka.
The previous week, the transaction was 1,694.93 million taka. That is, the transaction on the DSE increased by 4,384.40 million taka or 25.84 percent in the week.
Before the start of trading on the first working day of the outgoing week, the market capital on the DSE was 664,825,940,000 taka. At the end of trading on the last working day of the week, the market capital stood at 673,930,517,000 taka.
This shows that the market capital increased by 9105,423,000 taka or 1.37 percent during the week.
On the other hand, the overall index of the CSE, CASPI, increased by 218.16 points or 1.52 percent to 14,512.23 points during the relevant week.
The other index of the CSE, CSCX, increased by 102.03 points or 1.17 percent to 8,803.01 points.
Shares and units of 299 companies participated in trading on the CSE throughout the week. Of these, the prices of 187 increased, 79 decreased and 33 remained unchanged.
During the week, there were 27 crore 21 lakh 56 thousand 785 taka worth of transactions. The transaction was for 71 crore 98 lakh 94 thousand 580 taka the week before.This indicates that during the week, the CSE saw a drop in transactions of 44 crore 77 lakh 37 thousand 795 taka, or 62.19 percent.
