Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced her government’s vision to create an engaging and enjoyable education system in Bangladesh, aiming to inspire students to pursue their studies with enthusiasm.
Speaking at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Monday, the Prime Minister inaugurated the distribution of stipends, tuition fees, and awards to deserving students, emphasizing the need for an education system that fosters a love for learning.
“We aim to establish an education system that encourages students to study with genuine interest. They should feel a natural desire to learn without needing constant reminders,” said Prime Minister Hasina.
At the event, stipends and tuition fees were distributed to economically disadvantaged and high-achieving students from secondary to graduation levels. Additionally, the Prime Minister presented awards to top-performing students from the Bangabandhu Creative Talent Search-2024 and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Scholar Award-2023.
Hasina highlighted her government’s efforts to update textbooks and curricula and to introduce a creative education system that aligns with global changes. “We want to create a learning environment filled with joy,” she added.
Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury presided over the function, with PM’s Education and Cultural Affairs Adviser Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and State Minister for Education Begum Shamsun Naher also addressing the audience.
In his welcome speech, Suleman Khan, Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, announced that over 6.47 million students from secondary, higher secondary, and graduation levels will receive Tk 2,208 crore in stipends and tuition fees through an online mobile financial service under the G2P (government to person) system this fiscal year.
Furthermore, 15 students identified through the Bangabandhu Creative Talent Search-2024 received certificates and Tk 2 lakh each, while 21 postgraduate students were awarded the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Scholar Award-2023, each receiving a certificate and Tk 3 lakh.
Several award recipients, including Nusrat Jahan Maliha from Hazaribagh Girls’ School and College, Atifa Rahman from Amena-Baki Residential Model School and College, and Zarin Tasneem Raisa from Dhaka University, shared their experiences and feelings at the ceremony.
