PM greets nation on Pahela Boishakh, calls for unity and progress

B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has extended heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the people of Bangladesh and all Bangla-speaking communities worldwide on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh, welcoming the Bangla New Year 1433.

In a message marking the day, the Prime Minister said Pahela Boishakh, the first day of the Bangla calendar, represents the nation’s history, culture, and a unique symbol of identity. He noted that for centuries, the day has brought a message of renewal, encouraging people to leave behind past hardships and move forward with fresh hopes and aspirations.

He said Pahela Boishakh is closely linked with agriculture, nature, and rural economic life. Even in the age of modern information technology, farmers continue to plan their cultivation activities in harmony with natural cycles, he said, according to a PID handout.

Highlighting the cultural significance of the festival, the Prime Minister mentioned traditional celebrations such as Boishakhi fairs, Boishakhi Shobhajatra, and Halkhata, which reflect the diversity of Bangladeshi culture and strengthen social harmony.

He said the Bangla New Year brings new expectations and possibilities, while the renewal of nature combined with human optimism creates a vibrant festive atmosphere across the country.

Referring to the political context, he said that after the end of “one and a half decades of authoritarian rule,” a new democratic government began its journey following the national election held on February 12. Since taking office, the government has launched various programs aimed at improving living standards for people from all walks of life.

He added that several initiatives have already been introduced, including Family Card, Sports Card, canal excavation programs, and financial assistance for imams, muazzins, khatibs, and religious leaders of other faiths.

The Prime Minister also announced that from the first day of the Bangla New Year, the Farmer Card program is being introduced, which he said would play a transformative role in strengthenigreetsng agriculture and supporting farmers.

Expressing hope for the future, he said that values of tolerance, generosity, and harmony would further strengthen democracy and coexistence of diverse opinions in society.

He also noted that the world is currently facing multiple crises and conflicts, making peace, empathy, and mutual respect more important than ever.

On this occasion, he urged everyone to rise above narrow interests and dedicate themselves to the welfare of humanity.

The Prime Minister expressed optimism that the new year would bring peace, happiness, and prosperity for all, and reaffirmed his commitment to moving forward with renewed determination.
