Insurance Sector Assets at Tk 58,000 Crore, Investments at Tk 40,000 Crore

B Mirror Report: The total assets of private-sector life and general insurance companies operating in the country amount to Tk 57,921 crore, while total investments stand at Tk 39,906 crore.

Of this, life insurance companies account for assets worth Tk 46,004 crore, while general insurance companies hold assets of Tk 11,916 crore. Investments by life insurance companies amount to Tk 34,293 crore, whereas general insurance companies have investments totaling Tk 5,614 crore.

These figures were presented at the 38th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA). The information was shared with the media by BIA on Tuesday (23 December).

The meeting was attended by BIA First Vice-President Adiba Rahman, the Vice-President, all members of the Executive Committee, as well as chairmen, vice-chairmen, directors, and chief executive officers (CEOs) of insurance companies.

According to the BIA annual report presented at the AGM, premium income of private life insurance companies stood at Tk 11,510.70 crore in 2023, which declined to Tk 11,389.70 crore in 2024. By the end of 2024, the life fund of life insurance companies reached Tk 33,232.20 crore, compared to Tk 31,918.20 crore in 2023.

Investments by life insurance companies were Tk 33,461.30 crore in 2023, which increased to Tk 34,292.90 crore in 2024. Meanwhile, their total assets rose to Tk 46,004.30 crore at the end of 2024, up from Tk 44,141.10 crore in 2023.

On the other hand, total assets of general insurance companies amounted to Tk 11,649.40 crore in 2023, which increased to Tk 11,916.70 crore in 2024. Their investments stood at Tk 5,772 crore in 2023 but declined to Tk 5,614 crore in 2024.

Additionally, premium income in the general insurance sector was Tk 4,235.10 crore in 2023, which increased to Tk 4,349.50 crore in 2024.
