Court Seizes Tk 44 Crore Land of NASA Group Chairman

A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of land worth Tk 44.78 crore, owned by NASA Group Chairman Nazrul Islam Majumder, in connection with a corruption case. The properties include land in Gulshan, Ashulia, and Sonargaon in Narayanganj. Of these, 65.59 decimals of land in Gulshan alone has been valued at Tk 26 crore.

The order was issued on Monday (24 November) by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Sabbir Fayezz, following a petition from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam confirmed the development. The petition was filed by ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Shahjahan Miraj, the investigating officer in the case.

According to the petition, Nazrul Islam Majumder allegedly abused his power and amassed Tk 781.31 crore in wealth disproportionate to his known income through bribery and corruption. The court had earlier ordered the seizure and freezing of certain assets on March 6 and November 18. The newly identified properties were not included in the previous orders.

The ACC stated that Majumder attempted to sell illegally acquired assets under the pretext of paying workers’ wages and settling NASA Group’s liabilities. Authorities argued that the assets could be transferred or sold before the case concludes, causing significant loss to the state, and thus immediate seizure was necessary.
