B Mirror Report: Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has dismissed a recent media report claiming that it is not purchasing octane from local refineries, calling the information inaccurate and contrary to reality.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the state-owned corporation said reports suggesting that it is not procuring octane and petrol from private companies, particularly Super Petrochemical PLC, are not fact-based.
BPC clarified that it has repeatedly requested private refinery operators to supply octane, petrol, and diesel to meet domestic demand. It also said that fuel requirements are currently being met through both local sources and imports.
The corporation further rejected claims that it had issued a letter on April 8 refusing to accept fuel supplies from domestic producers, stating that no such letter was issued.
BPC added that sufficient capacity exists to procure octane and petrol from local sources, and therefore claims of non-receipt of fuel from Super Petrochemical PLC are not consistent with reality.
The statement also provided recent procurement figures, saying that in the current month it has received 11,615 metric tons of octane, 7,177 metric tons of petrol, and 12,884 metric tons of diesel from Super Petro PLC. From Acqua Refinery Limited, it received 291 metric tons of octane, 4,013 metric tons of petrol, and 581 metric tons of diesel, while Petromax Refinery Limited supplied 3,264 metric tons of octane, 1,254 metric tons of petrol, and 1,896 metric tons of diesel.
BPC noted that these volumes are higher compared to previous months of the year, and said there is still scope for additional fuel procurement in the remaining days of the month.
