The tendency of expatriates to send remittances through banking channels is believed to have increased. Expatriates sent remittances of 109 million dollars in one day on August 20.
According to the data of the Central Bank, 1.53 billion dollars have arrived in the country till August 20. Which is 36 percent more than the remittances received during the same period of the previous year. It was 1.12 billion dollars in the same period of the previous year.
According to Bangladesh Bank, from August 4 to August 10, remittances in the country reached 387.1 million 20 thousand dollars and from 11 to 17 August 65 million 14 million dollars. Apart from this, expatriates sent remittances of 109 million dollars in one day on August 20. In the first 20 days of this August, the remittance flow to the country increased by 406 million dollars or 36 percent.
In the context of conflict, curfew and internet shutdown in the context of the students’ movement over the quota reform last July, remittance flow decreased through legal channels. At that time, many expatriates campaigned about not sending remittances through legal channels in the country. Which had an impact on expatriate income.
