Week-Long Tree Plantation Drive and Tree Fair Kicks Off in Noakhali

Noakhali Correspondent: A tree plantation initiative and tree fair for 2025 has commenced in Noakhali under the theme ‘Planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh’. This event is a collaborative effort between the Noakhali District Administration and the Coastal Forest Department.

On Monday (September 1), at 10 am, the fair was officially opened with the release of balloons and pigeons in front of the Noakhali District Commissioner’s office. The fair is being held at the Eidgah ground next to the District Commissioner’s office.

To celebrate the launch of the week-long fair, a vibrant procession, tree planting activities, and a discussion meeting took place in the morning. During this event, checks totaling Tk 18 lakh 72 thousand 690 were distributed to 74 participants. The fair features 24 stalls showcasing and selling thousands of local and exotic fruits, as well as forest and herbal seedlings.

During the opening ceremony, Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed emphasized the importance of tree planting for maintaining the ecological balance of our planet, providing clean oxygen, regulating temperature, enhancing natural beauty, preventing soil erosion, mitigating floods and droughts, and supplying food, shelter, and fuel for both humans and animals.

Additionally, Abu Yusuf, the Divisional Forest Officer of the Coastal Forest Department, remarked that tree planting is one of the noble acts in existence. Plants and tree saplings play a crucial role in regulating the oxygen and carbon dioxide cycle, which is vital for the survival of not just humans but all living beings. Trees serve as natural barriers that help maintain environmental balance, ensure the earth remains habitable, and protect nature from natural disasters. The impact of the tree crisis on the oppressive heat and the discomfort of people exposed to the sun is undeniable.

Present at the event were Divisional Forest Officer Abu Yusuf, Assistant Conservator of Forests AKM Arif Uz Zaman, and Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Ibrahim Khalil.
