B Mirror Report: Bangladesh’s premier stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ended lower on Sunday, the first trading day of the week, as share prices of most listed companies declined. However, overall turnover increased compared with the previous trading session.
The benchmark DSEX index fell 24 points to close at 5,451. The DSES Shariah index dropped six points to 1,080, while the blue-chip DSE-30 index declined two points to 2,103.
A total of 385 companies and mutual funds traded on the DSE during the session. Of them, prices of 264 declined, 79 advanced and 42 remained unchanged.
The DSE recorded a turnover of Tk 5.69 billion on Sunday, up Tk 353.9 million from Tk 5.33 billion in the previous session.
Meanwhile, the broader CASPI index of the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) fell 25 points to 14,635.
Shares and units of 196 companies traded on the CSE, with 123 declining, 53 advancing and 20 remaining unchanged. The exchange recorded a total turnover of Tk 90 million.
Beximco Ltd topped the DSE turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 281.29 million changing hands. GQ Ball Pen Industries ranked second with turnover of Tk 240.6 million, followed by Evince Textiles with Tk 184.86 million.
Other companies among the top turnover leaders were Saiham Textile Mills, Sonali Aansh, Sharp Industries, Dominage Steel Building Systems, Paramount Textile, IPDC Finance and Simtex Industries.
Bashundhara Paper Mills led the gainers, with its share price rising 9.71 percent. GQ Ball Pen Industries gained 6.65 percent, while Beximco advanced 5.33 percent.
On the losing side, MBL First Mutual Fund recorded the steepest decline, with its unit price falling 10 percent. Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund dropped 9.56 percent, while EXIM Bank First Mutual Fund lost 9.26 percent.
First Prime Finance Mutual Fund fell 8.89 percent, Sunlife Insurance declined 8.60 percent and NCCBL Mutual Fund-1 dropped 8.33 percent.
