PM urges proper use of every taka of public money

B Mirror Report: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed government officials to ensure that every taka allocated for development projects is spent properly in the national interest and for public welfare.

He gave the directive at a meeting to review the activities of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the progress of various development projects at the ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.

During the meeting, officials briefed the prime minister on the ministry’s ongoing activities, development projects, future plans and targets.

Tarique Rahman said the government would allocate budgets to implement the ministry’s projects and achieve its targets, but officials must remain vigilant and responsible in spending the money, as it belongs to the people.

“You have undertaken many projects and set many targets. The government will certainly allocate budgets to achieve those targets. But this is public money. I expect all of you to ensure that every taka is spent properly in the national interest and for the welfare of the people,” he said.

The prime minister described government service as a special opportunity to work for the country and its people. He said those holding public offices were privileged compared with the wider population and should use their positions to serve the public interest.

“We have been given an opportunity to work for our country and its people. Everyone should sincerely try to perform the duties they have been entrusted with,” he said.

He stressed that opportunities to serve in public office did not last forever. Therefore, officials should make the best possible use of their responsibilities to benefit the country and its people.

Calling for sincerity and dedication, the prime minister urged officials to fulfil their duties responsibly for as long as they held their positions.

He also encouraged officials to share their views more actively, noting that their field-level experience and observations could play an important role in government decision-making.

Tarique Rahman expressed hope that officials would present their experiences, observations and opinions more openly at future review meetings on the ministry’s activities and development projects.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, State Minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Secretary Delwar Hossain and senior ministry officials attended the meeting.
