The US (SEC) and World bank will assist in the development of the capital market.

The World Bank and United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will work with the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for the development of the capital market.

A four-day workshop was inaugurated on Sunday (October 27) at the BSEC building in Agargaon of the capital. BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsood inaugurated the workshop entitled ‘Conference on Enhancing Securities Regulation’ organized jointly by BSEC, World Bank and US SEC.

In the opening speech of the workshop BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashed Maqsood said that we are fortunate to have been able to organize such a workshop with the help of the US SEC and the World Bank by experts who have extraordinary skills and experience in the field of capital markets. Such workshops will help all stakeholders to better understand each other’s perspectives on capital market responsibilities. We have always been interested in developing successful long-term partnerships and collaborative activities with the World Bank and the US SEC. Such partnerships and collaborative activities will further strengthen our relationship with the World Bank. He expressed optimism that many more such activities will be conducted in the future for the sake of the development and welfare of the country’s capital market.

Mr. James Gardiner, Economic Officer of the US Embassy in Dhaka said, among others, that the United States is committed to playing a supportive role in the development of Bangladesh and the necessary reforms in the country’s economy. Regarding the organized workshop, he said, this is the first such activity in Bangladesh after August 5. He said that they expect something good to happen in the hands of newcomers in Bangladesh. He thanked everyone involved in organizing the workshop.

World Bank’s Senior Financial Sector Specialist Mr. Jsolt Banga said, among others, World Bank and IFC are working for the development of the economic sector in Bangladesh under the World Bank J-Cap mission for the development of Bangladesh’s capital market. He mentioned that the World Bank is conducting various types of partnership and cooperative activities to make the capital market of Bangladesh more advanced, modern and prosperous. He said that they are working for the development of human resources along with technology and technical support to advance the capital market of Bangladesh.

US Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC) Risk Strategist Mr. Nitish Bahadur, US SEC Associate Director Mr. Paul Gamage, US SEC Branch Chief Mr. Tom Swear, US SEC Senior Special Counsel Mr. Celeste M. Murphy conducts training sessions on various topics related to capital markets.

Through the organized workshop, the capacity of the officials and representatives of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Financial Institutions Division (FIB) of the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank and Dhaka Stock Exchange related to the country’s capital market will be increased and it is expected to bring benefits to the country’s capital market in the future. .

Officials and representatives of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance, Bangladesh Bank and Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC (DSE) are participating in the workshop. In addition, BSEC Commissioner Mu. Mohsin Chowdhury, BSEC Commissioner Farzana Lalarukh and BSEC officials were present.
