BMirror Desk: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has indicated that his upcoming four-day official visit to China, commencing on Wednesday, will strengthen the ties between Bangladesh and China.
“I will be traveling to China for four days, where I am scheduled to meet with President Xi Jinping and engage with CEOs from prominent Chinese companies,” he stated prior to his departure.
The Chief Adviser is set to depart from Dhaka to China on Wednesday afternoon.
In a national address on Tuesday evening, Dr. Yunus mentioned that Longji, the world’s leading manufacturer of solar panels, has shown interest in establishing a factory in Bangladesh. “We are collaborating with them. Additionally, we will discuss technical and medical assistance, affordable healthcare, and other relevant topics,” he noted, adding that China is eager to import mangoes, jackfruit, and guava from Bangladesh, with plans to initiate this process soon.
As Prof Muhammad Yunus and President Xi Jinping prepare for their bilateral meeting in Beijing on March 28, several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed.
These documents will likely cover areas such as human resource development, economic and technical cooperation, cultural and sports collaboration, and media partnerships. Furthermore, announcements regarding economic initiatives, investments, and economic zones are anticipated.
Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin provided updates to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon, with MoFA Spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam and various Directors General in attendance.
The bilateral meeting is scheduled to take place at the Great Hall of China, where discussions will encompass a range of strategic issues, including trade and investment promotion, agricultural cooperation, infrastructure development, renewable energy initiatives, and the resolution of the Rohingya crisis, among other mutual interests between Bangladesh and China, as highlighted by the Foreign Secretary.
