The new Chairman of Karmasangsthan Bank.

Mr. Dr. A F M Matiur Rahman (Former Secretary) joined as the Chairman of the Karmasangsthan Bank on 20 October 2024 Notification by Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Institutions dated 17 October 2024. He has been appointed as the Chairman of Karmasangsthan Bank for the next 03 (three) years from the date of joining.

Mr. Dr. A F M Matiur Rahman started government service in 1973. He served in various important government positions. At the field level, he served in responsible positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Mymensingh, Rajbari District, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Biyanibazar, Sylhet.

Mr. Matiur’s 40-year career as Deputy Secretary, Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation, Economic Relations Department (ERD), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Member of Bangladesh Handloom Board, Ministry of Youth and Sports as Joint Secretary, Land Appeal Board as Additional Secretary and Youth Development Department as Director General, BRDB, Radio Bangladesh worked with efficiently. He also worked in organizations like Rural Development and Cooperatives, Advisor to Rural Poor Development Organization, Executive Director of Bangladesh International Business Forum, Secretary of Rural Development and Cooperatives Department under LGRD, USAID, Pragati, BICF-IFC.

Mr. Matiur was the Honorary Director of the Board of Directors of the Karmasangsthan Bank from 2000 to 2002. He is both an economist and a public health specialist. He obtained a master’s degree with honors in economics from Dhaka University. PhD in Economics (Microcredit) from Preston University, USA. He has published at least 32 articles in national and international journals. Also he has published 20 reports, 7 books which have made important contribution at national level.

He holds Diploma on Advanced Industrial Management Institute of Engineers and Economists St. Petersburg (Leningrad, Russian Federation), Short Course on Health Economics Center for Development Studies (CDS) University of Wales, United Kingdom, Certificate Course on Regional Follow-up Meeting on National Youth Council, Colombo, Sri Lanka, Seminar on Youth Development Malaysia etc. Participated and successfully completed training, seminars and workshops in many countries. He participated in 30 professional training courses in the country and abroad.

Notable among his researches and publications are Amar Japito Jibon o Proshason’, ‘Potential and Prospects of BRDB’, ‘Impact on Skill Training under PA Projects of BRDB’, ‘Why We Are Poor’ ‘etc.

Mr. Matiur was born in August 1950 from a noble Muslim family in Munshiganj district, Tongibari upazila at Sonarang village.
