The former social welfare minister who was arrested by DB police. The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered the seizure of the bank accounts of 13 people including Dipu Moni, former health minister Zahid Malek.
Today, Monday (August 19), the financial intelligence agency has informed all the banks and financial institutions of the country with this instruction.
Among those who have been ordered to seize bank accounts are Dr. Deepu Moni’s husband Toufiq Nawaz and elder brother Dr. JR Wadud Tipu, Dr. Taimur Nawaz, Zahid Malek’s daughter Cynthia Malek, son Rahat Malek, Chhatra League’s former president Liaquat Sikder and his wife Mahmuda Ali Sikder, former National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC) Director General Major General Ziaul Ahsan and his wife Nusrat Jahan, former MP from Bagerhat-1 constituency. Sheikh Helal Uddin and his son former MP of Bagerhat-2 Constituency Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy.
At the same time, instructions have been given to suspend the bank account transactions of the businesses owned by them.
Meanwhile, a team of intelligence department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Dipu Moni from Baridhara area of the capital today around 7 pm.
On December 29, 2008, she was appointed as Bangladesh’s first female foreign minister on January 6, 2009, after winning for the Awami League-led grand coalition.
