Task force submits final recommendations on margin rules

B Mirror Desk : The final suggestions for updating the Margin Rules of 1999 have been submitted by the Reform Task Force, which was established to develop the capital market. On Sunday, April 27, the task group formally sent over the final recommendations pertaining to the margin regulations to the commission.

In attendance were Commissioner Farzana Lalarukh, Commissioner Md. Ali Akbar, and BSEC Chairman Khandaker Rashed Maqsood.

Professor Md. Mustafa Akbar from the CSE Department of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Associate Professor Al-Amin from the Accounting Information Systems Department of Dhaka University were also in attendance on behalf of the reform task force.

On October 7 of last year, BSEC established a five-member special capital market reform task group with the goals of fostering the general growth of Bangladesh’s capital market, boosting investor confidence, and guaranteeing sound capital market administration. Later, in response to the Task Force’s recommendations and in support of their efforts, a Capital Market Reform Focus Group was established, which was composed of individuals with experience and involvement in the capital market.

The Commission received draft proposals on the revision of the Margin Rules, 1999 from the Capital Market Reform Task Force on February 10. All parties involved were then asked for their thoughts on the aforementioned proposed recommendations. According to BSEC sources, the Capital Market Reform Task Force has developed the final proposals in this regard after taking the aforementioned perspectives into account.
