B Mirror Report: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Agriculture and Food Sultan Salauddin Tuku today emphasized the government’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency and transforming surplus agricultural production into exportable commodities.
He made the remarks while addressing a programme held at the Tangail Sadar Upazila Parishad premises this afternoon. The event was organised under the agricultural incentive scheme for the 2025-26 fiscal year (Kharif-1 season) to promote jute cultivation by distributing free jute seeds, fertilisers, and farming equipment to small, marginal, and medium farmers.
Highlighting the importance of char areas in Tangail Sadar, the state minister said the government will make maximum efforts to develop these regions. He noted that vast tracts of char land remain fallow and bringing them under cultivation would benefit marginal farmers and strengthen food supply in neighbouring districts.
“For the first time, irrigation machines have been provided in char areas, and jute seeds and fertilisers have already been supplied to farmers,” Tuku said. He added that the country has sufficient fertiliser stocks, and strict monitoring is in place to ensure proper distribution.
“No farmer will face any difficulty in obtaining fertiliser,” he assured, adding that the government will continue taking effective measures to provide comprehensive support to marginal farmers.
The function was presided over by Sharifa Haque. Among others, speakers included Ziaur Rahman, Ashek Parvez, and agriculturist Noor e Alam Siddiqui.
