ABS Foundation Launches Tree Plantation Drive

Pabna Correspondent: ABS Foundation organized a tree plantation programme at Imam Ghazzali Girls’ School and College in Pabna on Thursday as part of its month-long campaign under the slogan, “Let’s Decorate the Country with Trees, Bangladesh First.”

During the programme, ornamental trees were planted on the school campus, while more than 200 students received saplings to encourage tree planting and environmental awareness.

A discussion meeting was held before the plantation programme, chaired by the institution’s Principal, Suraiya Sultana.

Welcoming the guests, ABS Foundation Chairman and Rotarian Altaf Hossain said the organization has been planting and distributing ornamental, medicinal, fruit-bearing, and endangered tree saplings in schools, colleges, and communities across Pabna, adding that the event was part of its ongoing environmental initiative.

Freedom Fighter Khondkar Mohammad Nasim, president of the Pabna district unit of the Muktijoddha Parishad, attended the event as the chief guest.

Speaking as the keynote discussant, river and environmental activist Dr. Md. Monsur Alam highlighted the importance of large-scale afforestation to address climate change, conserve biodiversity, and build a greener Bangladesh. He said the nationwide tree plantation programme would succeed with collective public participation.

Among others, Asian TV Staff Reporter and environmental activist Shafik Al Kamal and Assistant Head Teacher Md. Anisur Rahman also addressed the programme.

The event was attended by Green TV district correspondent R.K. Akash, journalist Rabbi Islam, teachers, students, and local media representatives.

The distributed saplings included grafted mango, jackfruit, guava, medicinal plants such as neem, arjun and bahera, as well as ornamental species including almond, golden shower, krishnachura and bakul.

The programme was moderated by Assistant Teacher Abdul Mannan Bhuiya of Imam Ghazzali Girls’ School and College.
