Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim inaugurated the Semicon Southeast Asia 2024 Summit at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, on May 28th, 2024 as a Chief Guest.
In the keynote address at the launch of Semicon Southeast Asia 2024, themed “Boosting Agility and Resiliency of the Global Electronics Supply Chain”, Semicon SEA 2024 addresses sustainability, chiplet technology, and workforce development with nearly 500 participating exhibitor and over 1,000 exhibition kiosks.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the Malaysian Government envisions positioning Malaysia as a global hub for semiconductor research and development (R&D), fostering an ecosystem that integrates world-renowned universities, corporate R&D facilities, and internationally acclaimed centers of excellence. Mr. Anwar said that this strategic endeavor aims to harness the synergistic potential of homegrown Malaysian talent and international experts.
Mr. Anwar said that a robust multinational semiconductor production sector remains vital for mankind’s survival, “particularly as we are running out of time in our climate action and risk mitigation”.
Malaysia is aspiring to train and upskill 60,000 high-skilled local engineers, in a bid to boost the local semiconductor sector, this is one of the five salient features of Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
