The closing ceremony of the week-long short film exhibition organized by PostPro TalentLab, a joint partnership of the World Bank and the Korea-World Bank Partnership Facility (KWPF), was held at the capital’s Mohakhali Cineplex on Thursday (November 28).
Over six months, the program provided 24 fellows with advanced training in post-production, an integral part of filmmaking. It includes editing, sound design, and color grading. The initiative aims to position Bangladesh as a global competitor in the creative economy while simultaneously creating jobs and accelerating the growth of green industries.
The exhibition was part of the PostPro TalentLab Showcase Week (November 26-28), which brought together local and international experts from Bangladesh, Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore to explore the future of Bangladesh’s post-production sector. In addition to the exhibition, the week included panel discussions, roundtable discussions, and insights into emerging trends in film, digital content, and gaming.
The closing ceremony featured three short films, Jatrabiroti, Phonimansa, and Shabad Oparaye. The Jatrabiroti short film tells the heartwarming story of two siblings in search of family and friendship. The Shabad Oparaye short film tells the inspiring story of Sadia, a young woman from Satkhira, defying social and environmental challenges to pursue her dreams, and the Shabad Oparaye short film tells the poignant tale of friendship between a deaf person and a traumatized person who find solace in each other’s silence.
Bangladesh’s youthful population, expanding digital infrastructure, and increased global recognition have positioned the country as an emerging player in the global content market. During the Showcase Week, policymakers, industry leaders, and international experts discussed strategies to accelerate the growth of the post-production sector, emphasizing investment in state-of-the-art studios, public-private partnerships, and policy reforms.
A highlight of the event, the ‘Creative Exchange Carnival’ featured speakers from South Korea, Singapore, and the Philippines sharing insights on trends including the rise of OTT platforms, digital disruption, and the need for specialized film education. These discussions recognized the sector’s potential as a multi-billion dollar growth engine capable of supporting innovation, green job creation, and sustainable development.
The World Bank is committed to empowering Bangladesh’s creative sector and envisions a future where the country emerges as a global hub for post-production excellence while simultaneously meeting growing local demand. The PostPro TalentLab was more than just a showcase of Green Growth in Action – it was a true catalyst for innovation. This is an important milestone in Bangladesh’s creative journey.
Along with post-production, editing, color grading, sound design and mixing, it plays a crucial role in transforming camera footage into final content. It is widely used in film, gaming and digital content creation.
Bangladesh’s content market has an annual potential of around US$3 billion. It can generate employment for over 50,000 people, driven by local demand, internet penetration and the younger generation. PostPro TalentLab was launched in May 2024 to address the skills gap in Bangladesh’s creative industries. Under the guidance of internationally renowned mentors, fellows honed their skills in cutting-edge techniques and collaborated to produce three original short films.
