The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) started the week with a sharp decline on Sunday, with its benchmark index DSEX falling nearly 97 points as most listed securities lost value.
At the close of trading, DSEX dropped 96.61 points, or 1.75%, to 5,418.55.
Of the companies that traded on the day, prices of 336 declined, while only 27 advanced and 21 remained unchanged.
The DSE Shariah Index (DSES) fell 19.66 points, or 1.78%, to 1,085.40. The DS30 index, comprising 30 selected companies, declined 23.30 points, or 1.11%, to 2,072.01.
Despite the sharp fall in prices, trading activity increased. Turnover on the DSE rose to Tk 571.32 crore from Tk 544.43 crore in the previous session.
Meanwhile, trading on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also increased, with shares and units worth Tk 14.24 crore changing hands, compared with Tk 9.85 crore in the previous session.
A total of 201 companies traded on the CSE. Of them, 45 advanced, 138 declined and 18 remained unchanged.
The CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell 150.87 points to 14,715.82 on Sunday.
