Sheikh Hasina and Joy Accused in Plot Allocation Scandal

B Mirror Desk: The court has issued arrest warrants against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, including 29 others, in two separate cases filed by the ACC on corruption charges in the allocation of plots by the Capital Development Authority (RAJUK).

On Tuesday (April 15), the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib accepted the chargesheet filed by the ACC. Of these, 12 people are accused in one case and 17 in the other case. The court has issued arrest warrants against the accused as they are absconding.

Assistant Director of the Prosecution Division of the ACC Aminul Islam confirmed this information in the court.

Other accused for whom the warrants were issued are – Administrative Officer of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works Md. Saiful Islam Sarkar, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Goldar, Additional Secretary Kazi Washi Uddin, Secretary Md. Shahid Ullah Khandaker, PA of the former chairman of RAJUK Md. Anisur Rahman Miah, former RAJUK members Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Kabir Al Asad, Tanmoy Das, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Eng.) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury (Retd.), Md. Nurul Islam, Director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, Deputy Director Md. Hafizur Rahman, Habibur Rahman, Mohammad Salah Uddin and Sharif Ahmed. The last two are the accused under investigation.

It is learned that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed 8 separate charge sheets against ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana’s family members, former State Minister Sharif Ahmed, former Private Secretary to the Prime Minister Salahuddin and 14 officials of the Ministry of National Housing and Public Works after finding evidence of allocating 60 katha plots in Purbachal. The cases were filed against them on January 12, 13 and 14. The accused are accused of abusing the power vested in former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family while they were the highest office bearers of the government and public servants and allocating six plots of land on Road No. 203, Sector No. 27 of the Purbachal Housing Project for ill-gotten gains. A case has been filed against the accused under Sections 161/163/164/409/109 of the Penal Code, 1860, as well as Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.

After ruling the country for a decade and a half, Awami League President Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5 after leaving the post of Prime Minister in the wake of a student uprising. She has been there since then.
