Sammilito Islami Bank officially takes over Global Islami Bank

Sammilito Islami Bank PLC has formally assumed responsibility for Global Islami Bank at an event held at Bangladesh Bank’s head office on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

The handover took place in the presence of Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman. Global Islami Bank administrator Md Moksuduzzaman formally handed over the bank’s responsibilities to Sammilito Islami Bank PLC Chairman Kazi Shayrul Hasan and Managing Director Md Abedur Rahman Sikder.

Senior Bangladesh Bank officials, including deputy governors, as well as members of Sammilito Islami Bank’s board of directors, attended the event.

Earlier at the same event, Union Bank administrator Mohammad Abul Hashem handed over the bank’s responsibilities to the chairman and managing director of Sammilito Islami Bank.

With the assumption of responsibility for Global Islami Bank and Union Bank, Sammilito Islami Bank PLC has formally completed the takeover of five banks.

Speaking at the event, Sammilito Islami Bank Managing Director Md Abedur Rahman Sikder reiterated the bank’s commitment to restoring normal banking services as soon as possible.

He sought sincere cooperation from bank officials, customers and stakeholders to rebuild customer confidence.

The bank’s board and management also expressed their commitment to establishing strong corporate governance, ensuring full Shariah compliance and promoting inclusive banking to build Sammilito Islami Bank into a sustainable and people-oriented financial institution.
