Remittances reached $1.748.6mn in 23 days

In the first 23 days of the current month (August), remittances or expatriate income sent by expatriate Bangladeshis stood at 1748.62 million US dollars. In local currency, the amount is about 21332.92 million taka (based on 122 taka per dollar).

This information was revealed in the updated report of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (August 24).

According to the report, during this period, $392.9 million came through state-owned banks and $249.7 million came through the agricultural bank among specialized banks. The highest amount of $1097.1 million came through private banks. And $879 million came through foreign banks.

Earlier, in July, the first month of the 2025-26 fiscal year, remittances worth $247.791 million, worth about Tk 30,239 crore in Bangladeshi taka, came into the country. However, no remittances came through 8 banks in that month.

The highest remittance in the 2024-25 fiscal year was in March—$3.29 billion. The total remittances received throughout the fiscal year were $30.33 billion, which is 26.8 percent more than the previous fiscal year (2023-24).

According to analysts, remittance flows are on a positive trend due to government-announced incentives, effective steps to prevent hundi, and facilitating legal channels for expatriate income.
