Premier Bank’s Half-Year Loss Widens 184% on Lower Interest Income

Premier Bank PLC, a listed commercial bank on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), reported a sharp increase in losses during the first half of 2026, with its earnings per share (EPS) loss widening by 184 percent compared with the same period last year.

According to the bank’s unaudited financial statements for the second quarter (April–June), disclosed through the DSE on Thursday, the loss per share stood at BDT 3.15 for the January–June period, up from a loss of BDT 1.11 in the corresponding period of 2025. This represents an increase in per-share loss of BDT 2.04, or 184 percent.

For the second quarter alone, the bank posted a loss per share of BDT 2.28, compared with a loss of BDT 1.33 in the same quarter a year earlier, marking an increase of BDT 0.95, or nearly 71 percent.

As of June 30, 2026, the bank’s Net Asset Value per Share (NAVPS) stood at BDT 10.44.

The financial statements were approved at the bank’s board meeting held on Wednesday.

Premier Bank attributed the higher losses primarily to a decline in interest income during the first six months of the year. The bank also said that operating cash flow per share improved due to increased borrowings from other banks and agents. However, the rise in operating losses led to a decline in its net asset value per share compared with the same period last year.
