NovoAir resumes operation after its aircraft sale deal failure

B Mirror Report: NovoAir has resumed domestic flight operations as it failed to sell its all five aircrafts.

Airline analysis ADS-B data shows the airline’s last flight before the suspension was on May 1 and resume operation from May 22, 2025.

After failing to sell international market Novoair officials confirmed that the carrier is reportedly looking for an investor.

“We are talking with many investors including local and international but none have yet to matured for announcement” an official of Novoair told Business Mirror Saturday.

NovoAir put all five of its ATR72-500s on the market in June 2024 under a remarketing agreement with Airstream International Group. The five ATR – Avions de Transport Régional turboprops remain listed as available for sale by the remarketing company. At that time, the airline planned to transition from the turboprops to A321-200s. It later revised the plan to A320-200s but was unable to find aircraft on the tight market.

The airline’s staff and officials is getting their salaries as normal during the paused operation period.

Since its inception on January 9, 2013, Novoair has invested more than $50 million in aircraft acquisition and an additional $10 million in infrastructure and support equipment. Except for its 2018-1019 financial year, the airline has incurred losses every year, sources said.

Corona pandemic, fuel cost and skewed domestic market and reduced demand have put the once smart local airlines under sever threat.

Currently, Novoair operates daily domestic flights connecting Dhaka to Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Jashore, Saidpur and Rajshahi.

Flights on its lone international route of Kolkata have been suspended since September last year due to a shortage of passengers.

Regulatory roadblocks such as the high rates of surcharges, aeronautical, landing and parking fees are also blamed for the nascent company.
