Facebook and Messenger cannot be used using mobile data in most places of the capital Dhaka. However, uninterrupted internet service continues on broadband lines.
Dhanmondi, Neelkhet, Palashi, Sciencelab, Green Road, Jatrabari, and neighboring Narayanganj, Tongi and Gazipur cities of the capital Dhaka are also unable to use the internet with mobile data.
At the same time, the same situation has been reported in university-centric areas in different parts of the country. Data users say that this situation started at midnight last Tuesday (July 16).
However, although mobile data worked somewhat till noon on Wednesday (July 17), it has not been used since then. Facebook and Messenger are not working, and even after turning on the data, the 4G sign comes. Despite having enough data, nothing can be done online.
SIM users of Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Airtel, and Teletalk are all in the same situation. But there is a normal broadband line. There is no problem in using the internet on the connected lines at home and in different offices.
However, no official statement has been received from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) or the mobile operator companies on the matter.
However, it is believed that the government’s regulatory body has given verbal instructions to stop the 4G network in the public and private universities of the country and the surrounding areas.
Incidentally, data users have to face slowness in mobile data usage since the nationwide student agitation and clashes demanding the abolition of quotas in government jobs.
