Market Capitalization Up by BDT 21.6B as DSE Index Climbs

Three of the five trading days in the last week have seen an increase in the nation’s stock market. Consequently, more Companies were included in the list of weekly gainers. The market value of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the nation’s primary stock exchange, increased by around BDT 25 billion as a result. Price indices and average daily trade turnover both climbed concurrently.

333 of the Companies that were traded on the DSE throughout the week were recognized as gainers. On the other hand, 22 enterprises saw a decline in prices, while 36 saw no change. This indicates that 85.16 percent of the participating companies saw a gain in share prices.

Due to the large number of gainers, the DSE’s market capitalization stood at BDT 6,86,368 crore at the close of trading on the last working day of the week. In the previous week, it was BDT 6,84,762 crore. In other words, market capitalization increased by BDT 21,606 crore, or 0.23 percent, over the week.

Alongside the rise in market capitalization, the main price index of the DSE also increased. The DSE’s benchmark index, DSEX, gained 77.26 points, or 1.58 percent, over the week. In the previous week, the index had fallen by 141.57 points, or 2.82 percent.

Among the other two indices, the DSE Shariah Index comprising companies operating in accordance with Islamic Shariah principles rose by 9.69 points, or 0.95 percent, over the week. In the previous week, this index had declined by 32.06 points, or 3.03 percent.

Meanwhile, the DSE-30 Index, made up of selected fundamentally strong companies, increased by 11.66 points, or 0.62 percent, during the week. In the previous week, the index had fallen by 42.48 points, or 2.20 percent.

Trading activity on the DSE also picked up last week. On average, daily turnover stood at BDT 417.60 crore per trading day, compared to BDT 411.46 crore in the previous week. That means average daily trading increased by BDT 6.14 crore, or 1.49 percent.

In terms of value, the highest trading volume on the DSE throughout the week was recorded in shares of Orion Infusion. The company’s shares saw an average daily turnover of BDT 17.01 crore, accounting for 4.07 percent of total trading. Khan Syntex Industries ranked second, with average daily trading of BDT 13.23 crore. Dominage Steel Building secured third place, with an average daily turnover of BDT 13.13 crore.

Additionally, the list of the top ten traded companies includes Brothers PP Woven Bag, Fine Foods, Asiatic Laboratories, BD Thai Food, ACI Pesticides, Munno Fabrics, and Anwar Galvanizing.
