In a celebration of the timeless fabric, Khadi, known for its distinct texture, breathability, and versatility, the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB) has organized the ‘Khadi Fest 2024.’
Taking place at Aloki Convention Center from January 19 to 20, 2024, this festival not only showcases the beauty of Khadi but also serves as a platform for sustainable and ethical fashion practices.
The festival, featuring a runway show titled “Khadi: The Future Fabric Show,” presents the works of Bangladeshi designers, bringing contemporary shades to the traditional fabric.
President of the FDCB, Maheen Khan, expressed, “Khadi is very much alive today and, by absorbing contemporary shades, it has become the fabric of tomorrow.”
A highlight of the festival is the exhibition zone, where 35 Bangladeshi exhibitors display a variety of accessories made from Khadi, contributing to the industry’s shift towards sustainable fashion. Local artisans showcase handcrafted products, including shitol pati, ornaments made from sholas, clay, and other traditional artifacts.
Renowned Bangladeshi designers such as Jakia and Maysha, Abir and Tajbir, Faiza Ahmed, Tenzing Chakma, and more presented their innovative takes on Khadi during the vibrant runway show. The festival also includes insightful seminar sessions discussing Khadi’s role in promoting sustainable and ethical fashion practices.
Supported by Maya as the title sponsor, the festival aligns with Maya’s commitment to natural ingredients and eco-conscious practices. Co-sponsored by BGMEA, HSBC, Berger, Rupayan Group, and Buy Here Now, Khadi Fest 2024 marks a significant moment in Bangladesh’s fashion industry, showcasing how traditional fabrics like Khadi can be reimagined for contemporary needs while preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainability.
