July 1 ‘bank holiday’, capital market transactions are also closed

Tomorrow Monday (July 1) will be a ‘bank holiday’ and all transactions in the bank will be closed on this day. Due to this, there will be no trading in the two capital markets of the country, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). The capital market will also be closed for this reason.

The six-month financial accounts of the banks ended on June 30. Prepares half-yearly balance sheets by consolidating accounts sent from various branches across the country. 1st July is a bank holiday after 30th June due to the preparation of accounts.

Traditionally, there are two ‘bank holidays’ in a year. Another day is December 31, the last day of the year. The financial accounts for the whole year are finalized on this day.

Bangladesh Bank declares these two days as ‘Bank Holidays’ in the list of holidays every year.

Bank holidays are also declared on two days when the list of holidays for 2024 is announced. After buying and selling shares in the capital market, the money is transacted through the bank. If the bank is closed, the capital market is also closed.

Although stock trading in the capital market is closed on Monday, official activities will continue in two stock exchanges. On these two days of the year, banks are open only for internal business, no transactions take place.

However, the main offices and important branches of all banks, including Bangladesh Bank, will remain open. Banks will be open as usual on Tuesday from 10 am to 6 pm. Bangladesh Bank will run on the same schedule as commercial banks.
