Janata bank holds 19th annual general meeting

Janata Bank PLC held its 19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday at the bank’s head office in Motijheel, with Chairman Md Fazlur Rahman presiding.

At the meeting, the bank reported that its total deposits stood at Tk 125,550 crore as of December 2025, while its customer base increased by more than 1 million during the year. Loans and advances also rose to Tk 105,119 crore.

The bank said it continued lending to short-term and relatively low-risk sectors, including agriculture, CMSMEs and other government-prioritised areas. Against its targets for imports, exports and foreign remittances, the bank achieved approximately 114%, 88% and 104%, respectively.

Janata Bank recovered Tk 614 crore in cash from classified loans during the year. The number of loss-making branches also declined significantly, from 38 to 18. The bank’s total assets reached Tk 160,894 crore.

Managing Director Md Mujibur Rahman presented an overview of the bank’s business performance at the AGM.

Chairman Md Fazlur Rahman highlighted the bank’s efforts to expand modern banking services, including the Dual Currency Visa Debit Card, TakaPay Debit Card, Bangla QR-based cashless transactions and its proprietary payment gateway, “Janata Pay.”

Janata Pay received the first prize as the Best Innovative Initiative at the Financial Institutions Division’s Innovation Showcasing 2025-26 under the Ministry of Finance.

The chairman also said Janata Bank’s four branches in the United Arab Emirates posted a record profit of Tk 187 crore. Meanwhile, Janata Exchange (JEC) S.R.L. in Italy has launched agency operations.

Managing Director Md Mujibur Rahman said Janata Bank deposited Tk 724 crore in corporate income tax and Tk 2,227 crore in withholding tax, VAT and excise duties to the government exchequer in 2025.

Senior officials, including Additional Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division Abu Saleh Md Mohiuddin Khan, directors and deputy managing directors of the bank, attended the AGM.
