Human chain in protest of attack on 2 journalists

Naogaon Correspondent: In Naogaon, two journalists were picked up and human chained demanding the withdrawal of torture and conspiracy cases.

Journalists of Naogaon District Sammilit Journalist Oikya Jot protested against the torture of upazila journalists Mahmudunnabi and Rabiul by taking Islam and the conspiratorial false case against Mahmudur Nabi.

This human chain program was celebrated in front of the city’s Mukti Mor Shahid Minar around 12 noon on Thursday.

Journalists participating in the human chain said in their speech that journalists Mahmudunnabi and Rabiul Islam were taken away and tortured and bribed with shoe necklaces around their necks. Later, when Mahmudunnabeer’s brother went to file a case in the police station as a plaintiff, instead of taking his case, the clinic owners filed a conspiracy case. Journalists called to stop harassment of journalists through proper investigation. Journalists Mahmudunnabi Belal, Sadiqul Islam, MR Rocky, AK Saju and others spoke at the human chain.

Mahmudun Nabi, a victim of torture, said that on the afternoon of September 7, he was drinking tea in a shop in front of City Clinic in Najipur Bazar. At that time, City Clinic doctor and Mahadevpur Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dewan Sabur Hossain forcibly took him inside the clinic and started beating him. He was kept in the house and his mobile phone was taken away and he was beaten several times.

He also said that they threatened to kill him. At this time Mahmudun Nabi was made to sign a revenue stamp promising that he would not do journalism again. In addition, Facebook Live announced that they would not do journalism, and photos and videos were taken with shoelaces hanging around their necks. On receiving the information, police and army personnel came and rescued them and took them to the police station.

When asked about the case, Mozaffar Hossain, OC of Patnitala police station said that the people of the clinic diagnostic society came to the police station with the anti-discrimination students. Therefore, their complaint has been declared. He said that it is not a case about Mahmudur Nabi being released on social media with a shoe necklace around his neck, but it could be an ordinary diary.
