H.M. Imran, Jhenaidah: Relatives of the deceased and locals have surrounded the police station and blocked the highway in protest against the exclusion of the mastermind from the case of the murder of a young man named Abu Taleb, who was called from his house and killed in Kashipur Bendepalli in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah, and the signing of a white paper by the plaintiff. They demanded the removal of the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj police station, Shahidul Islam Howlader, and the inclusion of the real culprit in the case.
On Sunday (April 6) at around 10:30 am, about 200 men and women of the city’s Bendepalli police station started a protest. They stayed there for about 1 hour. They wanted to meet the OC but were unable to do so. Then they stayed in the Nimtala bus stand area of the city and blocked the Jessore-Jhenaidah road for about 1 hour. At that time, more than a hundred cars were stuck on both sides of the road. This caused extreme suffering to the common people. Later, they withdrew from the highway with an ultimatum to remove the OC within three days.
It is learned that on the early morning of April 3, a young man named Abu Taleb was called from his house and killed with an iron rod due to a previous enmity. On the same day, the deceased’s brother Abdul Alim was called to the police station and made to file a case. But he complained that he did not know anything about what was written in the complaint. A person named Rubel Hossain has been made an accused in the case. He was arrested on the same day.
The deceased’s brother and plaintiff in the case, Mohammad Abdul Alim, said, “We went to the police station on the day of the incident. At one point, the police station OC threw us all out. Later, he registered a case from the house using the national identity card number. But they don’t know what was written in the complaint. The OC named one person as an accused in the complaint as he wanted. But the mastermind of the murder is a man named Selim. He is a known drug dealer. There are multiple drug cases against him at the police station. The OC has excluded the mastermind of this murder, Selim, from the case.”
He also said that many police members of Kaliganj police station go to Bendepalli and sit with Selim and take money. We want the immediate removal of this OC. He expressed his fear that if this OC is not removed, he will not get justice for the murder of his brother.
Janeda Begum, the wife of the deceased Abu Taleb, said that she has three children. But the OC said that this child is not from Abu Taleb’s side. You brought it from somewhere else. How did the OC know that this child is not Abu Taleb’s. Where will I go with these three children now? The OC has dropped Selim’s name in exchange for money. I don’t want this OC in Kaliganj.
Despite repeated calls to Kaliganj Police Station OC Shahidul Islam Howlader’s official mobile number to inquire about this matter, he did not respond.
Then Additional Superintendent of Police Imran Zakaria said on the phone that he was in Narail for the constable recruitment exam. He advised him to talk to the Superintendent of Police.
Later, Jhenaidah Police Superintendent Mohammad Manjur Morshed could not be reached on his mobile phone.
