Govt committed to inclusive digital growth: CA

B Mirror Desk : Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing the telecommunication and information technology sectors in the country, promoting transparency and inclusivity throughout. In a statement commemorating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which will be celebrated nationwide on May 17, Prof Yunus highlighted this year’s theme, ‘Gender Equality in Digital Transformation,’ as a vital element of national progress.

He expressed his excitement for the occasion, stating, ‘It is uplifting to witness Bangladesh participating in the global recognition of this significant day.’ Prof Yunus underscored the necessity of equal access to digital resources and services, asserting, ‘The equal involvement of men and women in every facet of the digital revolution is crucial for creating a modern, equitable society.’ He further reiterated the interim government’s commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for both genders in the digital realm, reflecting the principles of the July mass uprising that advocated for justice and equality.

The Chief Adviser also highlighted government initiatives, noting the rollout of various ICT services through digital centers at the union level, which aim to connect urban and rural communities. He pointed out advancements in gender-specific initiatives, such as ‘She-STEM’ training programs for female students and specialized freelancing courses for women entrepreneurs, designed to boost women’s engagement in the digital economy. One of the government’s significant achievements, he mentioned, is Bangladesh’s integration into a satellite-based high-speed internet network, which will greatly improve connectivity in remote and underserved regions.

In closing, Prof Yunus urged citizens to collaborate, stating, ‘Let us unite to provide world-class telecommunication and IT services for every citizen of this nation.’
