Govt Aims for Tk 564,000 Crore Revenue in Upcoming Budget

The Finance Advisor of the interim government, Salehuddin Ahmed, has put forward a budget of Tk 790,000 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. This proposed budget anticipates a total revenue of Tk 564,000 crore, which represents 9 percent of the GDP. Of this amount, Tk 499,000 crore is expected to be raised through the National Board of Revenue, while Tk 65,000 crore is projected to come from other sources.

Salehuddin Ahmed commenced his budget speech at 3 pm on Monday, June 2. The budget speech is being broadcast live on Bangladesh Television.

According to the Finance Advisor, the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 amounts to Tk 790,000 crore, accounting for 12.7 percent of the GDP. A total of Tk 560,000 crore has been earmarked for various sectors, including operational costs, with Tk 230,000 crore allocated for the annual development program.

The budget proposal for the fiscal year 2025-26 indicates a deficit of Tk 226,000 crore, which is equivalent to 3.6 percent of the GDP. Of this total deficit, Tk 125,000 crore is planned to be sourced from domestic avenues, while Tk 111,000 crore is expected from foreign sources as outlined in the proposed budget.

In terms of government spending, the target for the Annual Development Program (ADP) expenditure has been set at Tk 230,000 crore. The budget allocates Tk 97,000 crore for salaries and allowances, with interest expenditures amounting to Tk 122,000 crore, and a subsidy target for electricity and fertilizer set at Tk 116,000 crore.
