Debate Competition Held at Santhia Women’s Degree College

Mansur  pabna Correspondent: A pleasant debate competition was organized at Santhia Women’s Degree College auditorium on Sunday, June 1 at 11 am on the topic of “Excessive use of information technology is reducing the reading habit of students.” The inter-departmental debate competition was presided over by the acting principal of the college, Md. Abul Kalam Azad, and Professor Md. Asaduzzaman, Regional Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Rajshahi, was present as the chief guest. He said that debate practice makes students rational. I applaud this program of Santhia Women’s College. He was very happy to know that the ‘Quiz Club’, ‘Debate and Recitation Club’ and ‘English Language Club’ established in the college are being run regularly. He also said that today’s debate topic is very timely and up-to-date. Living in the age of information technology, we should not close our eyes and ears; again, excessive use of anything is not good. I did not know that there is such a debate team in a district like Santhia, debate is practiced. I pray for the debaters from the bottom of my heart, you move forward and I wish Santhia Women’s College continued success. Santhia Upazila Executive Officer Riju Tamanna delivered the special guest speech. He said, debate practice plays a role in the development of students’ intellect and thinking. I am impressed by the way the students applied and dug into logic. He also said, none of us can move forward in the age of the Internet without using the Internet, even you debaters have certainly taken the help of the Internet in creating scripts, but yes, excessive use is bad in everything. He was very happy that co-curricular activities are being conducted along with college studies and assured all-round cooperation from the Upazila administration to continue this trend.

President of the College Governing Council Muha. Abdul Malek and Vice-Principal Mohammad Shafiqul Islam were also present as special guests. In this inter-departmental debate competition organized by Santhia Women’s Degree College, the champion of the party was the XI Science Department and the runner-up was the XI Humanities Department of the opposition party. The debaters of the party were, 1st speaker Mosha. Mim Mani, 2nd speaker Mosha. Asha Khatun, 3rd speaker or team leader Mosha. Kona Khatun. The debaters of the opposition party were, 1st speaker Nahida Yasmin Nila, 2nd speaker Mosha. Ima Khatun and 3rd speaker or team leader Mosha. Jesmin Khatun. The best debater was the team leader of the party, Mosha. Kona Khatun.

In this debate event, about three hundred students of XI Science, Humanities, Business Education, BM branch and BA/BSS branch enjoyed the debate festival. Assistant Professor of the Department of Islamic History and Culture of the college, Dr. Md. Mansur Alam, served as the moderator in the debate competition. The judges were Assistant Professor of the Department of Bengali Md. Jalal Uddin, Assistant Professor of the Department of Geography Md. Abu Omar Dulal and Assistant Professor of the Department of Islamic Studies Dr. Mohammad Idris. At the end of the program, prizes were distributed among the winners. In addition, the honored guests were welcomed with badges and honorary mementos were presented by the college. The discussion program was moderated by Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics Harun-ur-Rashid. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran; the Quran was recited by Ziasim Khatun, a student of the eleventh humanities branch. At the beginning, the national anthem was performed in unison.
