Dhaka stocks extended their losing streak on Monday, with the benchmark DSEX falling 46 points as trading turnover dropped below Tk 1,000 crore.
The decline came after the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded losses in the final two trading sessions of last week and began the current week on a negative note.
The DSEX fell 46 points on Monday to settle at 5,814 points. The index had declined 24 points on Sunday, 13 points last Thursday and six points on Wednesday.
Turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 994.86 crore, down from Tk 1,130.77 crore in the previous session. The figure represents a decline of Tk 135.91 crore, or around 12%.
Of the 391 companies and mutual funds traded on the DSE, prices fell for 318 issues, or 81.33%, while 54 issues, or 13.81%, advanced. Prices of 19 securities, or 4.86%, remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, trading activity increased on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE), although its benchmark index also declined.
CSE recorded turnover of Tk 105.27 crore on Monday, compared with Tk 75.16 crore in the previous session.
Of the 244 securities traded on the CSE, prices rose for 50, declined for 167 and remained unchanged for 27.
The CSE All Share Price Index (CASPI) fell 111 points to settle at 15,624 points, compared with a 68-point decline in the previous session.
