Bangladesh eyes Chinese Tech to modernise textile, jute sectors

Bangladesh plans to leverage China’s advanced technology, research and academic expertise to modernise the country’s textile and jute sectors and make them more technology-driven and competitive, Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said on Monday.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a bilateral symposium titled “Costume, Culture and Connection: A Bilateral Symposium on Traditional Attire and Cultural Exchange”, organised by Zhejiang Sci-Tech University of China at the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre in Dhaka.

The minister said the government, industry stakeholders and educational institutions must work together to achieve the desired development of Bangladesh’s textile and jute sectors.

He emphasised that stronger cooperation with international institutions such as Zhejiang Sci-Tech University could help enhance textile education, research and technological capabilities in Bangladesh.

The initiative is expected to promote greater collaboration in technology, research and academic exchange, supporting the modernisation of the country’s textile and jute industries and strengthening their competitiveness in the global market.
