B Mirror Desk: During the week of April 20 to April 24, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the primary capital market of the country, experienced a significant drop in its index. Consequently, the market capitalization of the DSE fell by 7,860 million taka, alongside the trading volume for the week. This data was disclosed in the weekly capital market update report. The DSE’s market capitalization decreased by 1.06 percent, equating to 7,860 million taka, bringing the total to 663,450 million taka by the end of the week, down from 670,536 million taka the previous week.
All DSE indices saw declines, with the main price index DSEX dropping by 124.73 points or 2.45 percent, the DSE-30 index falling by 30.38 points or 1.62 percent, and the DSES index decreasing by 39.01 points or 3.41 percent. Despite the index decline, transaction volumes on the DSE rose, totaling 1,718.18 crore taka for the week compared to 1,596.16 crore taka the week before, marking an increase of 1,222.02 crore taka.
However, the average daily transaction decreased by 554 crore taka or 13.88 percent, with an average of 343.63 crore taka per working day this week, down from 399.4 crore taka the previous week.
During the week, shares and mutual fund units from 396 companies were traded on the DSE. Among these, 57 companies saw an increase in their prices, 324 experienced a decline, and the share prices of 15 companies remained stable.
