Dhaka sees calm Eid return flow with no rush

B Mirror Report: As the extended Eid-ul-Azha holidays draw to a close, people have started returning to the capital to resume work and daily activities. Government and private offices are set to reopen on Monday, June 1, prompting a gradual flow of travelers back to Dhaka from their hometowns.

However, bus terminals across the capital remained relatively calm on Sunday, with no significant rush of returning passengers. Roads in the city also appeared less congested than usual.

A visit to the Syedabad and Jatrabari bus terminals showed a steady but manageable stream of travelers arriving from different parts of the country. Transport operators and commuters said the return journey has been spread out over several days, helping to avoid the heavy crowds typically seen after major holidays.

Imran Hossain, a private-sector employee returning from Barishal, said his journey back to Dhaka was comfortable and free from the congestion experienced before Eid. Similar views were shared by Saiful Islam, a businessman from Gopalganj, who noted that many people are still staying in their villages and are expected to return over the coming days.

Habib Rahman, a ride-sharing driver at Syedabad Bus Terminal, said passenger arrivals are increasing gradually but have yet to create pressure on transport services. He expects the city to regain its usual busy pace by next week.

Travelers also reported smooth journeys due to lighter traffic. Nafiz Ahmed, who returned from Faridpur, said he reached Dhaka quickly because roads were largely free of congestion. University student Nasrin Alam, returning from Cumilla ahead of upcoming examinations, said her trip back was much easier than her pre-Eid journey.

Transport stakeholders expect the number of returnees to rise once offices, courts, and educational institutions fully reopen, gradually restoring Dhaka’s characteristic hustle and bustle.
