Coast Guards detain six people during Sangu Gas Field goods theft

A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard detained six people in an operation during the theft of the goods from the state resource Sangu Gas Field.

On Sunday, the Coast Guard informed the media that some organized circles have been trying to destroy this state resource for a long time. The gang steals important structures, pipes, and various other important goods from the Sangu gas field located in the outer anchorage. Based on the information, a special operation was conducted by the Bangladesh Coast Guard ship Shyamal Bangla in the Sangu gas field sea area at anchor.

According to the Coast Guard, during the operation, a suspicious boat near the Sangu gas field and some people were seen preparing to cut various structures on top of the gas field. Meanwhile, the Coast Guard vessel was able to catch six thieves red-handed with hand saws, gas cutters, hammers, knives, gas pipe cutting regulators, gas cylinders, and engine-driven wooden boats while preparing to steal the important goods of the gas field.

The arrested persons are Iqbal Hossain Jewel (33), Meraj Uddin (22), Mofiz (42), Kamrul (28), Md. Rubel (25), and Amjad Khan (65).

Coast Guard spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taqi said, “During the initial interrogation by the Coast Guard, the arrested admitted that they have been involved in the smuggling of important goods and structures from the Sangu gas field located in the Bay of Bengal for a long time. They sell these goods as scraps in Bhatiari, Chittagong.

The arrested persons and seized goods were handed over to Patenga Model Police Station for further legal action.
